Activists
trying to stop Israeli war crimes in Jenin
JENIN] Over 40 international activists have placed themselves in life threatening situations to halt Israeli war crimes being carried out right now in Jenin.
Right-wing
terror against New York family of Mideast activist
Death threats and harassment organized by right-wing Zionist thugs and abetted by the political
establishment and the media have forced the family of an American humanitarian worker in the Middle East
who spoke out against the Israeli military onslaught in the West Bank to flee New York City.
Israel
buries the bodies, but cannot hide the evidence
srael was trying to bury the evidence in Jenin refugee camp yesterday, but it cannot bury the terrible crime it
has committed: a slaughter in which Palestinian civilians were cut down alongside the armed defenders of
the camp.
A
rumor of war
After a long and dreary winter, it is an utterly perfect, sunny spring Thursday. It is April, and I should
be out in the garden, or down by the lake, or doing something to soak up the idyllic glory of
springtime. Instead, I am on the phone, talking with a New Yorker (and former co-worker) named
Kristen Schurr. Outside my window, kids are playing. Outside Kristen's, it is a war zone, and the
children are shot at every day.
Thinking ahead
by Edward Said
Anyone with any connection at all to Palestine is today in a state of stunned outrage
and shock. While almost a repeat of what happened in 1982, Israel's current all-out
colonial assault on the Palestinian people (with George Bush's astoundingly ignorant
and grotesque support) is indeed worse than Sharon's two previous mass forays in 1971
and 1982 against the Palestinian people.
Chomsky
on the current situation in Palestine
I think there is a qualitative change. The
goal of the Oslo process was accurately described in 1998 by Israeli academic
Shlomo Ben-Ami just before he joined the Barak government, going on to
become Barak's chief negotiator at Camp David in summer 2000. Ben-Ami
observed that "in practice, the Oslo agreements were founded on a neo-colonialist
basis, on a life of dependence of one on the other forever."
Lies of Desperation: Answering
Thomas Friedman
As the ratio of fatalities between Palestinians and Israelis has narrowed during the past few
months, the media mills in the United States that have demonized Palestinians for the past 50 years
have been going into higher gear.
Communiqué
from Anarchists of the former Yugoslavia
We, anarchists from ex-Yugoslavia, join the appeal to denounce internationally the violence of the
state of Israel, whcih with the help of its US protectors is carrying out a genocide of the Palestinian
people. We do not accept the mentality of alignment and, refusing to support Arafat against Sharon,
or Hamas against the American Congress in a position coherent with what we hold to be in the
tradition of anarchist humanism, we support only the Palestinian people in their struggle and
resistance against imperialist aggression.
An
Open Letter to American Jews from Israeli Reservist Refusenik
Yesterday I was informed of an interesting phenomenon: a peace-supporting Jewish organization
called Tikkun published an ad in favor of us, the Israeli reservist refuseniks, and was immediately
bombarded with hate mails and phones from other American Jews. What ís more interesting is that
even other Jews considering themselves supporters of peace have denounced the Tikkun ad, to the
extent that some of the Tikkun Advisory Board members are resigning in order to minimize the
personal damage to themselves.
