Best job for an Anarchist

Postby Bakunin-Kropotkin » Thu Mar 19, 2009 11:40 am

Before I start I am asking the Class Struggle Anarchists not Individualists. What is the best job for an Anarchist to have? Should we by duty earn a humble wage and live a humble life or do you think it is ok to live a lavish life yet still call yourself a Social Anarchist. I agree more with the former.

Do something that fucking fulfills you and makes you happy. Don't get a shitty job just so you get to complain about how much of a dick your boss is.

Capitalism alienates us! Our goal should be to overcome that alienation and live happy lives! Don't oppress yourself

My goal is to live in a commune or intentional community. That would be my ideal job.

Otherwise, a job with no responsibilities (or as little as possible) and that's not too hard. I guess that's what I have right now. :)

I think the best for anarchists is to organize themselves and create their own company in which they will organize themselves in harmony with anarchism (equal salaries, decide together, no director except on the paper someone must be responsible for external subjects, etc). what kind of busisness company should do? everything what doesn't exploit other people but something what can earn money for all of you who are part of company. better than to go in factory or to be teacher (to learn children capitalist programmed shit) or who knows what.
we must live from something in present system, so better to organize us to work in company where our human dignity will be protected. plus company can finance movement if company makes bigger profit than workers of company need for their private life.

Yeah maybe createing that little bubble of happiness is what it's all about. Anarcho-happybubbleism.

I'm serious though. A little bubble of happiness is all we need. Let everyone else live the lie if that's what they truely want.

it is proposal. your comment look like masochist one, you can freely go to the factory (to be mixed with suffering of others). I am sure, crowd of people, even people who are not anarchists, would like to work in firm where all people are equal. even today, crowd of anarchists are students or people without job, so they are not mixed with workers in any case. I don't think that going of anarchists in factories will make revolution (workers don't accept new idea automatically). there are a lot of things which must be done in order to get people for our idea. so making of our companies could satisfy our human dignity (protect us from harassment of hierarchy).

Whatever an anarchist is most happy doing. For example, I am a writer.

Would it be okay for an anarchist to live a lavish life? I think the question should be, "What kind of anarchists would be up for living a lavish life?"

It really depends on the anarchist you are, you see. An anarchist who follows Buddhist principles probably would frown on collecting enough assets to live such a life. An individualist anarchist is not constrained by his peers or any philosophical/religious doctrine, so he's largely allowed to do whatever his conscience and ambition dictates within his overall belief system.

Anarchism has nothing to do with accumulation of wealth. It simply means you don't have to deal with higher authorities than yourself. I'd recommend looking at a good list of divergent anarchist philosophies and look at their basic beliefs about wealth.

this is correct. because I recognize self-management in factory as my right hand.
Anarchism has nothing to do with accumulation of wealth.

this can be discussed. at one side, it is correct in the sense that we are not capitalist system, but at other side, structure of society (mass society) and needs of people (food, clean water, medicaments, etc) push people to be organized, to produce wealth. wealth is not only ferrari, wealth is surviving of my child because of vaccine, available hygiene for all of us, clean water, etc etc. so, organized production must exist because people don't like to die and we are living in mass society (even if big cities disapear again people in village will need organized production).

I think it's best to go with the happybubblism theory previously discussed. Anarchism is a way of life, and the object of life is to be happy. If an individual can create a happy atmosphere within the constructs of an anarchist ideology, they have succeeded. Getting to that point however is arguable. On one hand, you can join a collective and live in a manner that complements anarchism by living in anarchism OR you can live in "normal" society and do what makes you happy in that society while holding onto anarchist ideologies by contributing to communities and working towards the establishment of Anarchism (or is that the disestablishment?).

I think the best job for an anarchist would to be an anarchist, it's a lifestyle which gives enough individual satisfaction for living a full life. (Corny much?)

This is true, but that just doesn't answer the question. :/ The question posed assumes that an individual is already an anarchist but must figure out what she/he must do. I figure the best thing is just to find an occupation that is fun (or in the very least satisfactory) and complies with one's core anarchist values.

There's something noble about being a squatter in a derelict but historic building from the 20's. Mix that with midnight grafitti raids on the monuments of Big Business, spontaneously gathering with other anarchists for music and philosophy, and dumpster diving behind the local chinese restaurant (de-lish!)

I think there are plenty of jobs suitable for a devout anarchist. They're not too easy to find, but they're there. It's the same thing for a Buddhist nowadays (what with the "right livelihood" spiel). Almost everything out there aids the suffering of people... It just takes some time to find the worthwhile ones.

Best job for anarchist is any job he likes to do combined with the sabotage of the state. Any job where you don't pay or pay less taxes is good. Anywhere you could do something to weaken the state would be perfect. Although in real life it's kinda hard to harmonize this...
