No to WTO Ireland

At the end of this month in Seattle the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is meeting. Here in Ireland we are planning various activities to highlight what is wrong with the WTO. These will be in solidarity with the 100,000 plus demonstrators who are expected to descend on Seattle, in particular on the global day of action on November 30th.

We are asking organisations who oppose the WTO to come to the Central Bank plaza in Dublin on Saturday 27th Nov at 13:00. We want each organisation to set up a stall and give out information about what it does and why it opposes the WTO. We also hope to have a speaker from each organisation explaining their position.

In this way we will make a public protest against the WTO, directly inform some of the public about the WTO but also provide an opportunity for people from all these organisations to meet and exchange ideas.

We also encourage individual organisations to organise their own actions on the Global day of action (N30), Tuesday 30th November.

Finally to help get media coverage of all these events we are asking organisations and individuals who oppose the WTO to sign a press statement, which will be sent to the media around Nov. 25th. We would also encourage you to submit your own press statements around this date _and_ to encourage your members to write 'Letter to the editor' of the various national and local media.
