N30: Report from Atlanta
Hey y'all,
On Tuesday about noonish a varied group of activists gathered in
Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta to tell the people of the city
what the WTO was all about, and how their lives will be affected
by secret procedings in a far off land.
many groups were represented; the ones I remember were RAN, IWW,
Refuse and Resist, AIM, Food not Bombs, Dogwood Alliance, some student
groups, and one lonely Earth First!er (me). There were a few media
reps there w/ cameras etc.
Several people spoke to the crowd, there were a couple musicians,
and Leigh from RAN just about wore her bullhorn out. Food not Bombs
served food, someone was there giving away free clothes, and we
managed some rather disjointed chanting. There did'nt seem to be
an abnormal police presence, we certainly were'nt bothered by them
at all.
After that we laid out on the grass in the forms of the letters
NO WTO, there are supposed to be pictures taken from overhead floating
around but i have'nt seen them. A good time was had by all.
