[edit] Geography

Milwaukee is a decaying playground. In the decline of its former industrial state (similar to other rust belt cities), it offers both opportunities for free and autonomous cultures as well as room for developers to fill their pocketbooks.

It could be argued that Riverwest (in Milwaukee) is one of the most radical neighborhoods in Wisconsin. Anti-authoritarian vandalism and street art can be found rotting on electrical boxes and open wall space all over Riverwest. If people are interested in finding anarchists, all they need to do is walk around Riverwest on Clarke or Center street for about a ten minutes.

[edit] History

In 1917 a police station was blown up by Italian Anarchists on the South side of Milwaukee. Mario Buda is thought to have been the ringleader. The bomb was discovered near a church at 355 Van Buren St., in the old third ward. Two boys brought the bomb to the central police station at Oneida and Broadway and turned it over to police. The station keeper was showing it to the shift commander, Lieutenant Flood, when it exploded. Nine members of the Department were killed in the blast.

Here are some current summaries of Anarchist organizing over the last two years:

The Milwaukee IMC might soon have a physical location soon in the infoshop being created by the Cream City collectives (ccc).
